Annual Titanic Memorial Mass

Back in the 80's Bridie Syron of Tonacrick, whose aunt Mary Canavan perished when Titanic sank, started to have an annual mass said for the 11 Addergoole travellers who died in the sinking.

On Sunday 11 April 2010 the annual mass for those on RMS Titanic was offered up in St Patrick's Church Lahardane at 11.30am. Local school children brought up the 14 lanterns representing our Addergoole Fourteen, the choir sang traditional hymns and the gifts were to the altar by two descendents of Addergoole's Titanic passengers, Bridie Syron and Willie Cusack. Although all the votive candles were lit for the start of Mass, for some unexplained reason only fourteen remained lit at the end!
